If you travel north on Hwy. 37 from Tripp SD, then you will come into the town of Parkston. Parkston is 10 miles north of Tripp, and is located 25 miles south of Mitchell on SD Hwy 37. It has a population of over 1400. Their town slogan is "A Great Place To Grow," and that is exactly what Parkston has been doing since we moved to Tripp in June. Parkston is a little bit bigger than Tripp SD.

Welcome to Parkston

There are businesses in Parkston that we couldn't find in Tripp, such as an Auto Parts store, and we bought our homeowners insurance from Wenzel Insurance on Main Street. They also just built a new Dollar Store on Hwy 37 going north and the are building some new homes there. They rebuilt a gas station called Caseys on Hwy 37.

There is also a pharmacy, and Herman's Used Appliance store. They have a nice grocery store there called the Parkston Food Center, and a catering shop (look for the big chicken. phone 605-928-7461) These two stores are not hard to spot, they are right at the intersection of Hwy 37 and Hwy 44, as you come into town.

Parkston Winter Events

-Parkston Rubble Site - Wed. Nov 28, 2007 will be the last day for free dumping of certain items at the rubble site and will be closed for the season. After that the rubble site will be operated by appointment only. For an appointment, call Ross Crosley at 928-3796. The appointment costs $10.00 paid directly to Mr. Crosley plus tipping fee payable to the city.
-The Parkston Edition of Hometown USA fundraising Family funboard game is now available. Call Craig Bruening at 928-3368. Purchase the game at Parkston Food Center, MS Bumblebee's Flowers and Gifts, The Medicine Shop, and Dakota Scents Bath and Candle Co.
-February 14 - Valentine Luncheon at Faith Lutheran Curch 11am to 1:30pm $5.00 adults, $2.50 age 7-12 under 6 free, door prizes, funds used for church projects.

Parkston Rainbow Motel

Parkston also has a motel called the Parkston Rainbow Motel located on Hwy. 37 for those of you looking for a place to stay. Parkston Rainbow Motel & Campgound has a campgound and their phone number, phone # is 605-928-3021 They also have the Parkston U-Haul phone # is 605-928-3976 and the Parkston Rainbow Cleaners with a Laundromat attached on to the hotel. Hutterite Colony

Hutterites - Old Elm Springs Colony The Old Elm Springs Colony is considered a part of Parkston SD, but it's easier for us to drive to it from Olivet. Phone 928-3256 ext 4 This colony is not as easy to find as the one in Delmont. We have to use our Garmin GPS c330 to find it. We bought some down pillows and a down comforter from them.
